Teen/Adult Classes - Ages 13 +

Mornings, Evenings, Saturdays

See our schedule

As an adult, you may be looking for ways to improve your health, physical conditioning, diet, self-confidence, self-esteem, manage stress and/or anger.

Parents of my younger students have also found their own desire to begin training. At first it may have been to support their child's interest in karate, but then developed into something they did for themselves as well.

You will witness changes in your physical appearance, cardiovascular condition, overall strength, and confidence. Karate training will help you reduce stress and cultivate mindfulness. You’ll also develop the ability to defend yourself  and your loved ones.

Too old to start? One of our black belts attained the level of 5th degree master, after starting his karate training at the age of 55.

Testimonials:

“People say Karate is a martial art. They are partially correct because they focus on the martial part more than the art. My daughter Abby and I have been practicing at Mojo Dojo for the past five years. We have experienced the profound benefits of both the martial and the art.

Today, Abby is a confident fifteen year old navigating and excelling in high school. It was not always that way. Abby has some personal challenges that make it hard for her to sit still, focus for long periods, and understand that what she does today affects what she can do tomorrow.

The martial part of Karate has put Abby in touch with her body in a way she was not before. Moving with precision, focus and purpose was not intuitive for her. Her training has made her more acutely aware of herself, her body and those around her. She is now able to focus through whole classes, and remain still and silent when necessary. Both are big accomplishments for her.

Her progression through the art gave her more patience with herself. She clearly sees the time it takes to learn new skills, and how those skills manifest is a reflection of her art. The art gives her the latitude to incorporate herself into her practice. Her values of peace, inclusion and nonviolence are strengthened through her training.

She understands the deeper meaning and philosophy embedded in her art. For example, “all our forms begin with a block.” That simple statement helped her understand that there is no first strike in Karate. We do not attack. We protect life and those who are vulnerable. This sense of a greater purpose helps Abby make sense of the complicated world she now observes, and lets her decide how she will choose to walk through it with confidence, compassion and strength.

Mojo Dojo is a welcoming and respectful community of people who are deeply dedicated to each other’s learning. It is a privilege to be a student here.” - Noah

"I have really enjoyed doing karate with my teenage daughter over the past 3 years. It strengthened our connection and provided us with a very welcoming community of support at the Dojo. Karate training has often helped me out of my comfort zone and challenged my brain, reflexes and memory in new ways - which is an awesome bonus!" - Sheri

“I cannot imagine a finer place for anyone interested in learning karate than the Mojo Dojo Karate in Mill Valley. If you are considering joining such a facility, whether for your child or for yourself, this place is outstanding.

Several things impressed me, not just with joining the Mojo Dojo, but in staying on with the Dojo. While there is steady encouragement with making progress, it is a positive energy that pervades the Dojo rather than some pushy, aggressive style. No one is pushed beyond what they are comfortable with, whether physically or emotionally. It is a safe place to be.

This isn’t to imply that attitudes are nonchalant. It is important and expected that everyone respects one another, to respect karate as a discipline, and to take seriously that safety is a priority. Time on the floor is taught in a serious though calm and assuring manner. Again, there is no sense of being goaded into something that is painful physically or mentally. This is further reinforced by the welcoming and encouragement everyone receives, not just from the staff, but from one another.

It is a truly special place where one advances based on merit and their own personal drive. I have been surprised to find how much I have really come to learn to enjoy karate and being part of the Dojo. It has become a special place in my heart, and can very well be in yours too.” - Steven K

"When my son Liam was five he asked ME to take a class. This was so far off my radar that I had never even considered it. But who could argue with such a reasonable request. It turned out that Mojo Dojo had a very vibrant adult program and I was immediately hooked.  What surprised me was what an incredible workout I got.  It was legs, core, aerobic - all wrapped up into one. That plus the mental discipline needed to learn new things left me pleasantly exhausted after every class. Add to that the amazing community made up of the students, instructors, and parents and you have an incredible place for any member of the family. It is four years later and my son and I are rapidly approaching our black belt testing date. That will mark the start of a whole new phase of our lives in Mojo Dojo, something I am very much looking forward to experiencing." -SL

"My son and I signed up for karate classes together in October 2012. I had no idea what was in store for me as a 45-year-old mom, as someone who had never practiced any martial art ever. I always thought of myself as a "yoga person," but I wanted to share something physically challenging with my young son. I set a goal to earn a black belt as my fiftieth birthday gift to myself. Three years later, both my son and I are brown belts, and I finally believe I can achieve my crazy, inspired goal. Along the way, I have had to overcome many fears and obstacles to stick with karate, and I have become much stronger physically and mentally because of my practice. There really are no words to express my gratitude to Shihan, Mr. Adam, and other advanced students who are my mentors and champions. I am so grateful to be in the dojo with them." -AG
